Unpaid Construction Workers Under Attack!

Unpaid construction workers under attack! Unpaid construction workers and Metro Council Members denounce actions by Skanska.

Will you stand with unpaid construction workers on Tuesday, February 5 at 5:00PM at City Hall?

Community leaders, Metro council members, and unpaid construction workers will gather outside the Metro Council Chambers to denounce what workers feel are retaliatory actions by the billion-dollar general contractor Skanska against people who have already faced stolen wages for work they completed in building the luxurious JW Marriott Hotel.

Construction workers that built the JW Marriott in downtown Nashville have been part of an ongoing labor dispute against two Drywall Subcontractors that where hired by Skanska, a multinational construction company that is currently building 5th & Broadway. In late December, a group of the affected workers, along with community supporters, paid a visit to Skanska’s offices. Several days later, some of those workers’ names appeared in a counter lawsuit against their original mechanic’s liens claims earlier in 2018.

In December we asked you to call Skanska Vice-President Dennis Georgatos. Your efforts made a difference. Yesterday, workers who built the luxurious JW Marriott Hotel met with the Skanska VP and asked that the billion-dollar corporation:

  • Drop their counter lawsuit that was filed on December 28, 2018, a week after the delegation went to the Skanska offices
  • Negotiate a settlement for work completed at the JW Marriott that they were the general contractor
  • Implement high road standards at Nashville-area work sites where Skanska is the general contractor to avoid future incidents of wage theft and unsafe conditions
