SUPPORTING NASHVILLE'S FUTURE ORGANIZERS

In 2021 we welcomed 13 young people into the inaugural cohort for the Workers’ Dignity Youth Fellowship! This past year we have seen young people make big moves and demand their rightful place in shaping our collective movements. We’ve been inspired by mega marches organized by teens, high school students organizing to get cops out of schools, and all the other ways youth show up to support multigenerational organizing. It’s clear that young people already are and will be our future movement leaders, so we’ve committed to launching the first ever Workers’ Dignity Youth Organizing School to support them.

The Organizing School will take place in Summer 2021, and our Fellows are helping plan it. In partnership with Free Hearts, Gideon’s Army, Movements Including X, Safer Schools Nashville, and Southerners on New Ground (SONG) Nashville, Fellows are receiving training, mentorship, and space to learn and practice organizing skills with experienced organizers. The Fellows will facilitate online workshops, organize youth assemblies, and help develop the curriculum for the Organizing School.

We will post updates about what the Fellows build and create, the good trouble they cause, and details about participating in the Organizing School as we approach summer. Our commitment to organizing includes teaching others what we’ve learned in our 10 years of worker organizing, and we’re so excited to see what our Fellows do to build our movement.
