Construction Worker Town Hall 6/30: We built the “It” City, and we deserve a voice!

June 27, 2019 (Nashville). It’s time for our elected officials to hear from the people who literally build this city. This Sunday, June 30 at 5PM, join us as construction workers share our experiences with Mayoral and Metro Council candidates. We work every day to help Nashville grow, and it’s time our elected officials work for us.

Behind Nashville’s expanding skylines, shiny new developments, and incoming business, construction workers face rampant wage theft, the most dangerous (and most deadly) worksites in the South, and abusive subcontractors. This city couldn’t run or grow without our labor, but workers and everyday people are increasingly pushed out and cut off from the prosperity of the “It City.”

In just two months, all 40 Metro Council seats and the Mayor’s Office face are up for re-election. And we need public officials who will understand and protect our interests — as workers, as community members, and as families. Workers’ Dignity is proudly cosponsoring this event, along with Alianza Laboral Nashville/Worker Resource Center, STAND UP Nashville, Central Labor Council of Nashville & Middle TN, and Middle TN Jobs with Justice.

If you work in construction, come speak about your experiences as workers, and share with political candidates your issues, hopes and expectations. Or, come to hear from those of us with first-hand experience of what Nashville’s booming economy means and inform yourself before the August election.
