Adriana – Victory at TopGolf!

October 22, 2019 (Nashville). Every Thursday, dozens of workers, Workers’ Dignity members, and ally advocates gather to fight wage theft in Nashville. And we’re making an impact.

Two weeks ago, Adriana and her coworkers won back $3,000 in unpaid wages for cleaning work they did at the TopGolf music and entertainment venue!

Adriana said she was grateful to all the members who support “those of us who are exploited and defrauded. Workers’ Dignity’s greatest contribution is teaching each other to fight and to overcome one’s fears.”

Her fears were not unfounded. When Adriana demanded her pay, things turned ugly, with audio recordings of Best Cleaning owner Oscar Del Cid threatening he would call the “federales” on her and other workers — essentially threatening to call ICE in retaliation. But that didn’t stop her, and once other members heard the audio, we were even more determined to stand with the cleaning crew!

Adriana and her coworkers labored extremely long nights at TopGolf, after being contracted by Best Cleaning Services. Working into the morning hours, they sometimes logged 14 hours/day, and worked for 37 days straight.

Congratulations to Adriana, who continues to support others in the fight against labor exploitation in Nashville!

What can I do to fight wage theft in Nashville?

When workers and our community come together to fight for dignity, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Here are steps you can take today to make Nashville a better place to work, live, and fight for justice.

  1. Sign the petition to keep wage theft out of our public schools!
  2. Share the petition with 5 friends!
  3. Come to our action on Tuesday, November 12th to stand with Armando as we demand full payment for work done!
