Applications open for Workers’ Dignity *paid* youth fellowships!

December 3, 2020

This summer we marched to defend Black Lives and defund the police in some of the largest marches in Nashville’s recent movement memory. Many of these and other actions were organized and led by high school students. It’s clear that young people already are and will be our future movement leaders, so we’re launching the first ever Workers’ Dignity Youth Organizing School to support them!

The Organizing School will take place in Summer 2021, but we need young people to help plan it! We are looking for 5 Youth Fellows (ages 14-19) to help us design and promote the School. This work is in partnership with four of Nashville’s boldest movement organizations: Southerners on New Ground Nashville, Free Hearts, Safer Schools Nashville, and Gideon’s Army. The Fellows will receive a $1,000 stipend plus mentorship and training from all five organizations!

Fellows will spend 3-5 hours per week, and may engage in tasks including:

  • Assist in gathering, reviewing, and prioritizing content for the curriculum
  • Develop promotional and recruitment materials
  • Organize and implement youth assemblies
  • Recruit youth participants via outreach and 1on1s

The Fellowships will begin no earlier than December 15th and end no later than March 22nd. Interested applicants should answer one or more of the following questions in any creative art or media format of their choosing (e.g., short video, graphic, essay, poem, etc.).

  • Who are your people?
  • What do your people need right now?
  • What do you hope to gain from the Fellowship?
  • What world are you fighting for?

Responses should be emailed to info@workersdignity.org. The deadline to apply is Thursday, December 10th.

Fellows will learn tangible organizing skills, learn from the five host organizations, and get started on organizing their friends and peers.

Please share this with all the young people you know! You can also support this work by making a donation to our Year-Fund Fund Drive. Fellowship stipends are a direct result of grassroots fundraising (we’re serious when we say your money goes straight to training our people!). Or if you are part of a church or community group, ask them to pitch in a large donation to sponsor a stipend for one of our Fellows! Make your tax-deductible donation now.
